Health Equity Curriculum Session 1

Professional Development

10:30 AM - 12:00 PM

Emily Carrillo, MD

Notes from Speaker:

This week we will be having the first of four sessions in this fall's Health Equity curriculum. We will be working our way through the very thoughtful and provocative course designed by Dr. Zoe Julian at UCSF called Structures & Self: Advancing Equity and Justice in Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare, reviewing companion literature, and situating what we learn into the specific context of health inequities our patients in Rochester are faced with.

Before the session, please read the attached article, Black Lives Matter: Claiming a Space for Evidence-Based Outrage in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Highly recommended, but optional, is listening to this podcast, The Invention of Race. This will be particularly helpful to those people who are new to critical race theory.

Finally, please take a few seconds to complete this very short survey.
